Live each day as if...

I am sitting in the Red Carpet Club in Chicago, I'll be here for the next 4 hours. I am on my way to Colorado to start my winter season. The last 3 weeks were spent in Connecticut with my family. My dad was admitted to the hospital on November 12th. He needed a stem cell transplant to treat his Leukemia and there were a number of logistical items that my mom needed help with to prepare their new home for his return. The priorities were obvious to me, and I knew that I could spare the time to come home and help out. To support both my mom and dad and help them transition into this new stage of life. I had a 3 week workout program from my trainer Michael from the Center Of Excellence in Park City, so I knew I could make strides with my physical fitness, the skiing would be put on hold for a little longer.

I had a whole list of ideas as to how I would utilize my time while in CT to be as productive as possible off of snow. At the same time I had many ideas as to how I would help my mom and dad. Every day was packed to the fullest. "Time is of the essence." I had to get my 2.5 hours of gym time, I had to work on my film project, I had to iron out contracts, I needed to get acupuncture and massage for my shoulder. I had to sit with my dad, I had to help my mom, I had to help sterilize the apartment, move furniture, I had to be an inspiration, I had to be the strength for them, the support, the foundation. Days were so packed that I felt like I accomplished nothing. The attempt to "live each day as if it was my last" was beginning to take it's toll.

Then I read a chapter about "time" in Deepak Chopra's book "Reinventing The Body, Resurrecting The Soul.". He says "we can choose to stop giving in to time as if it ruled our lives". We give time its life. By creating deadlines, lists of things we must do everyday, constantly striving for more and more and more, we create this pressure of time. But it doesn't have to be that way. If we live as if we have all the time in the world, as Chopra later suggests, we free ourselves from this pressure. We begin to enjoy our time more and experience the negative effects of time less.

"Your ultimate goal, living as if you have all the time in the world, is functional immortality. This happens to be how every cell in your body is already living. Immortality comes naturally; giving in to time is what requires effort."

Now go and be with yourself, listen to your body, sit with loved ones wholly and completely, undistracted, unrestricted, and away from the confines of time.

"Live as if you have all the time in the world."
